Cannabis delivery in San Diego

Delivery is legal in San Diego from state-licensed operators. Two kinds exist: licensed storefronts delivering from their premises, and delivery-only operators with no storefront at all. Both must verify you are 21 or older with photo identification at the door. Coverage is much wider than the storefront map suggests.

Why delivery coverage beats storefront coverage

San Diego caps storefronts at four per Council District, so large parts of the city and county have no retail location nearby. Delivery is licensed separately. A non-storefront operator holds inventory at a licensed facility and delivers from it, and that facility does not have to be anywhere near the customer.

The practical result is that an address with no dispensary within a reasonable drive may still have several delivery services available to it. If a storefront is inconvenient, delivery is usually the more realistic option rather than the fallback.

What happens at the door

Where delivery cannot go

Delivery to federal property is prohibited, and that includes military installations and federal buildings. Hotels set their own policies and many do not permit it. Being able to receive a delivery is also a separate question from being able to lawfully consume — see where you can consume.

Verifying a delivery service

Use the California Department of Cannabis Control public licence search, exactly as you would for a storefront. A lawful delivery operator holds either a retail licence or a non-storefront retail licence, and the licence number is required to appear on their advertising. Unlicensed delivery is common enough to be worth checking for, and unlicensed product is not subject to state testing requirements.

Delivery zone lookup — planned

A zone lookup that tells you which licensed services actually deliver to your address is the most useful thing this page could offer, and it is planned rather than built. It depends on access to live service-area data, which we are still working through. We would rather ship it late than ship it wrong.

Common questions

Is cannabis delivery legal in San Diego?
Yes. Licensed retailers may deliver from their premises, and separately licensed delivery-only operators may deliver without a storefront. Both must hold a current state licence.
Do I need to show identification to the delivery driver?
Yes. The driver must verify you are 21 or older with valid government-issued photo identification at the point of delivery. Someone else cannot accept the order on your behalf.
Can cannabis be delivered to a hotel in San Diego?
Delivery to a hotel is generally permitted if the property allows it, but the hotel sets its own policy and many prohibit it. Delivery to federal property, including military installations, is prohibited outright.
Why can a delivery service reach me when there is no dispensary nearby?
Because delivery licensing is separate from storefront licensing. A delivery-only operator holds inventory at a licensed facility that need not be near you, so delivery coverage is far wider than the storefront map suggests.
